Colin Blackaby: "Tugtender, Ferryboat, Tender and Tug to the Queens (Mary and Elizabeth) and Mulberry
Harbour Heroine: the story of MV Calshot and how she is being restored". Colin, has been one of a small
dedicated team of volunteers restoring this delightful old lady. He will talk about the work they have
done and show a rare "docudrama" film about her.

George Ray: "My Life as an Engineer" Last year George came to us in June and gave us a cracking talk
about the amazing William Stroudley and his iconic tank engines. On this occasion he will be talking
about a life spent in many different engineering roles.

Simon Bowditch: "The Hackworth Valve Gear for Steam Locomotives" Simon has talked to us in the past
about the mineral lines in North Somerset; that was a very interesting and enjoyable talk, but it turns
out that Simon is also an expert on valve gears, and this talk will explain the iconic early valve gear
invented by John Wesley Hackworth (1820-1891) that is to be found on several smaller tank engines, but
which also evolved into other forms in more glamourous contexts.
